| The Division of Orthodontics in the Department of Growth and
Development offers a special Preceptorship Program within the School of
Dentistry at the University of California, San Francisco. The goal of
the preceptorship program is to provide educational experiences in the
discipline of orthodontics to trained professionals in the field or
students presently enrolled within a recognized dental school. The
program is designed to provide the visitor with insights into the
orthodontic field and an opportunity to improve her/his expertise in a
specialized area for practice, teaching and research.
The orthodontic program will determine the optimum time for the visit and provide the faculty and courses. Individuals accepted into the program come for a full-time program for a minimum of 10 weeks. The cost of the program is $5,000/10 weeks. The curriculum includes selected classes in the orthodontic program based on instructor approval and observation within the orthodontic clinic. Clinical learning is enhanced by participating in selected seminars and treatment planning sessions. Participants can also participate with a team in the Center for Craniofacial Anomalies interacting personally with different team members who represent a large number of specialties in the medical, dental and behavioral fields. A joint preceptionship with the Center for Temporomandibular disorders and Orofacial Pain may also be available upon approval from the Director. Such a program provides direct patient observation, grand rounds and mini-resident seminar series. Opportunities for research may exist for more extended stays but usually such programs are available to visiting faculty on sabbatical from their sponsoring institution. |
