Post-doctoral education in the Department of Orthodontics is a 24 month certificate program beginning in July of each year. It provides intensive advanced training in the biological and clinical sciences and extensive orthodontic clinical experience. The program is fully accredited by the A.D.A. and effectively prepares the resident for the American Board of Orthodontists examination. A Masters of Science program is an available option for interested residents. The Masters program requires a commitment of additional time.

The program educates and trains the resident in the recognition and critical analysis of malocclusion, the development of proficiency in the use of the edgewise appliance and several modifications, and exposure to functional appliance therapy. Lectures, diagnostic conferences, interactive evidence-based learning seminars, literature reviews, typodont courses, and laboratory courses are integrated with clinical treatment of diverse malocclusions. Students participate in cleft palate/craniofacial team conferences and treatment, attend multidisciplinary seminars, and treat dentally and periodontally compromised adult patients.

The resident is required to complete a research project and to pass a variety of examinations to qualify for graduation.
