Thank You to all those who attended the 2008 GLAO/MASO Joint Annual Session held October 10-13, 2008 at the Gran Melia Resort in Puerto Rico! Congratulations to the Award Winners, presented at the 2008 Annual Session: Dr. John R. Barbour, DDS, MSD- Distinguished Service Award Dr. Frank E. Cordray,DDS,MS- B. Holly Broadbent, Sr. Memorial Lecture Award Winner A Message from the President Dr. Richard Marcus One of the highlights of the orthodontic year for all GLAO members is the Annual Scientific Session. In 2009, the meeting, “Diversity in Orthodontics,” will be held in Toronto, Ontario, from October 29 - November 1. Our Scientific Meeting Chair is Dr. Angelos Metaxas, and our Sponsorship and Exhibitor Chair is Dr Michael Sherman. Along with our Executive Director, Ms. Debbie Nunner, they have been working very hard to present a diversified three-day program, with topics of interest that run the gamut of Orthodontics. There will surely be speakers of interest to all of our members and their staff. This meeting will be held in conjunction with the Toronto Orthodontic Club (TOC), and the University of Toronto Orthodontic Alumni Association (UTOAA). If you are a member of the GLAO, TOC or UTOAA, you will be welcome to attend our 2009 meeting for the same registration fee. This will be a wonderful opportunity for some GLAO members who have not recently attended a GLAO meeting to see how rewarding an experience this can be. Canadians and Americans are proud that we have the longest undefended border in the world. Unfortunately events have necessitated the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI). Progressively, the requirements for both Americans and Canadians to enter or re-enter the United States have become more stringent. Currently, to fly between the two countries, a passport is essential. By the summer of 2009, it will be a requirement for all Americans who wish to cross the border by automobile to have a Passport. Getting a passport is a simple process, but it does take time. So, why not start the process early, in anticipation of your attendance at the GLAO Annual Session in Toronto? Details on cross-border requirements and passport information can be had at: http://gocanada.about.com/od/canadatraveloverview/qt/uscitizenborder.htm Please don’t hesitate to contact me at richard.marcus@utoronto.ca on any matter related to the Toronto meeting or GLAO activities, in general.
