A cold and gloomy day greeted everyone on the morning of the first day of October as many, for sure, found it easier to snuggle up and savor the cozy temperature of the holiday morning. Such, however, was not the case for the 38 members of the Association of Philippine Orthodontists who, despite rain showers, cold wind and the thick fog, trooped to the Tagaytay Highlands Resort to attend the Fiscal Year’s 1st General Meeting.
We are inviting you to two days of “Sun, Sand & Smiles…An APO Boracay Getaway” which will reach out to Orthodontists from all over the archipelago. The world famous white sands and blue waters of Boracay will be the perfect backdrop to promote camaraderie and learning.
Note: Many thanks to everyone, for making our 6th Biennial National Congress last Aug. 4-5, 2008 a success! Below is the Inaugural Address of our new President.
INAUGURAL ADDRESS
Delivered by Dr. Jose Manuel Rivera, APO President 2008-2010
Hon. Leonor T. Rosero (Chair, Professional Regulation Commission)
Dr. Leo Gerald de Castro ( President, Philippine Dental Association)
APO & PBO Officers
Fellow APO members
Beloved family members
Cherished friends, good evening!
Tonight I am humbled by the task that lies before me. Nevertheless I am honored to serve our members and our noble profession. The APO has been like a second family to me since my induction as member in 1996. Having been in the Board for almost ten years, I have been privileged to serve under the leadership of great men and women to whom I draw inspiration from.
Since 1980, our Association has had a long and illustrious history of devoted service to the upliftment of our profession with our membership steadily growing from a mere 8 to more than 140 as of this date. Recognition by the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC), the World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO) and the Asian Pacific Orthodontic Society has made the name APO synonymous to Orthodontic excellence in the country.
Having said all this, it is not for us to simply enjoy the view from up here. It is our task to find a way to move forward with the times, always, continuously, boldly and courageously! And our task tomorrow will be no easier than it was yesterday.
Today, we are celebrating our 15th Biennial Induction of Officers, and the success of the recently concluded 6th National Orthodontic Congress. I would like to congratulate Dr. Jose Rivera and his organizing committee for a job well done.
Being President of the Association of Philippine Orthodontists is a humbling experience. To do what is best for the Association’s objective; personal pride must be set aside. It has also taught me to work better under pressure.
Guided by our mission/ vision for APO, my Team and I worked with passion to put together 10 General Meetings, a Regional Congress which was held in Cebu and 2 Orthodontic symposiums which were held together with the Philippine Dental Association. All together, we have invited 27 speakers for these functions, 7 of which are foreign speakers coming from Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and the United States.

Good Evening!
I would like to thank my beloved colleagues in the Philippine Board of Orthodontics for the trust and confidence they have accorded me. This will be my second biennial term in a row together with most of the current officers and I believe this is a signal for us to do even better and to do a lot more for the Board.
